Responsible treatment

Contaminated materials, hazardous waste

At Kiimassuo waste treatment centre in Forssa, we treat annually approximately 200,000 tonnes of hazardous waste and contaminated materials, such as soil and concrete containing heavy metals or hydrocarbons. We have over 10 years of strong experience in the field.

We use several different methods for the treatment of waste, such as composting, stabilization, solidification, and screening. The aim is to reduce the amount of waste for disposal or convert the waste into a less hazardous form. We always select the most suitable treatment method based on the unique waste properties.

We aim at utilizing the treated waste materials as efficiently as possible. For example, in 2016 we utilized about 40% of all received waste materials for building Kiimassuo waste treatment centre. The unusable materials, such as asbestos and creosote, are disposed in to landfill site in a cost-efficient, responsible and environmentally friendly manner.

Assistance in waste classification

As our customer, you are responsible for the waste classification and informing what harmful substances the waste contains. If necessary, we will help you in classifying the waste as conventional or hazardous waste and, on the basis of its origin, in determining its suitability for the landfill site. Please notice, that asbestos waste must be delivered as bound to another solid material or as packed in plastics. In addition, all waste deliveries must be covered.
