Responsible treatment

Contaminated materials and hazardous waste

We responsibly and cost-effectively receive and process contaminated materials and
hazardous waste in an environmentally safe manner at the Kiimassuo waste treatment centre
in Forssa, the Marinkorpi treatment plant in Pori, and at the Kangasala treatment plant in the
Taraste Circulation Economy Area.

Finding the right treatment solution

We act as our customers’ waste management partner from start to finish. We always seek a processing solution for materials that ensures the best possible result in a cost-effective, responsible, and environmentally safe way.

We strive to utilize processed waste materials in the most versatile way possible, such as in the structures of waste centres and waste stations. Waste that is unsuitable for reuse, like asbestos and creosote, undergoes final disposal in a cost-effective, responsible, and safe way. In 2025, we utilized around 30% of all the material we received.

We collaborate closely with other companies in the LHJ Group, and many processing solutions for even the most challenging types of waste can be found within the Group. We also make use of our strong network of experts and partners.

Assistance in waste classification

As the customer, it is your responsibility to ascertain the origin of the waste and any hazardous substances it contains. Please send us the relevant information using the basic characterization form.

If you need help classifying waste as hazardous or non-hazardous, or ascertaining suitability for landfill based on initial data, please contact our customer service.

LoW guidance: LoW stands for List of Waste and was preceded by the term EWC, or European Waste Catalogue. LoW codes (formerly EWCs) are obtained from a list of wastes which is a list of examples of the most common types of waste. LoW codes are comprised of six digits, and for each six-digit code, there is a written description outlining how the waste is generated. LoW codes are therefore determined based on the waste’s generation process. Read more about LoW guidance.

More information can be found in the General terms of delivery and instructions document. Please note that asbestos waste must be delivered to us bound in an encapsulant or packed in plastic. All waste loads must also be delivered covered. Site-specific driver instructions for drivers transporting waste loads can be found on the Sites page.
