Utilization of challenging materials – true or false?

In our operations, we utilize the latest research results and the internationally best technologies of sustainable development. We constantly want to improve our expertise and thus research and development is an essential part of our operations.

We aim to treat hazardous waste, contaminated materials and municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) bottom ash as safely and efficiently as possible. We also aim to promote recycling and reuse of waste. We are already pioneers in the treatment of MSWI bottom ash and our goal in the near future is to recycle nearly 100% of all bottom ash we treat.

We encourage circular economy in waste treatment by introducing new types of recycled materials and products into the market. Read below more about our achievements and the projects we are participating in!

ADR dry separation technology

Our company is the first one to introduce Advanced Dry Recovery (ADR) dry separation technology, developed and patented in the Netherlands, into the market in Finland and other Nordic countries.

In 2013, we started our three-year research and development project, which aimed at searching for new practical solutions and methods for the utilization of MSWI bottom ash in civil engineering and concrete industry.

The scientific evidence produced in our research project has convinced the authorities that the manufactured aggregate refined from MSWI bottom ash can be used in infrastructure construction.

Geodesign project of the University of Oulu and the University of Lapland

We are participating in the Geodesign project of the University of Oulu and the University of Lapland, funded by Tekes (the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation). This project studies the utilization of, for example, MSWI bottom ash in geopolymers. The geopolymers resembling concrete are produced using different types of industrial waste and by-products.
